PROJECT

Maré of Beauty is a professional qualification project in aesthetics and beauty offered by the House of Women of Maré, in partnership with the L’Oreal Institute. The training is complemented by gender and society classes, making the students not only learn a profession, but also reflect on new ways of being in the world based on their realities as women who live in favelas.

Questioning and deconstructing standards of beauty imposed by society, widely disseminated, based on the elitist view that idealizes women is one of the objectives of the formation of Maré of Beauty. The project is also a response to the second largest economic sector in Maré, that of aesthetics and beauty, mostly led and consumed by women in the territory. The course uses the L'Oreal beauty salon assistant training methodology, associated with gender and society classes, socio-legal assistance and psychological support for the students..
