NATIONAL DAY FOR THE FIGHT AGAINST VIOLENCE TOWARDS WOMEN

By House of Women of Maré

Women are known for their collective organization capacity to dealWomen are known for their collective organization capacity to deal with life's difficulties. This is not natural. The need to survive everyday violence is one of the motivations for women to buildbonds with their neighbors, with their cousins, with their mothers, with their sisters, with their friends towards new possibilities.

We often talk about violence, but we don't talk much about the struggles against this violence. Therefore, every October 10th is the day to talk about collective initiatives that fight violence against women. The date, since the 1980s, seeks to pay attention to stories of actions by women and men who believe that the construction of gender equality is taking place now. Redes da Maré, observing the territory where it operates, noticed these processes of collective resistance and resilience of women, and built the House of Women of Maré, which has several projects and initiatives so that the women of Maré can be welcomed and strengthened. In addition to professional training projects (Flavors of Maré and Maré of Beauty), we have Maré of Rights exclusive services for women, a therapeutic group, training in gender and citizenship, lectures on sexual and reproductive rights.

At Maré, there are several initiatives and today we are going to talk about three:

ONG PRA ELAS - social project with the objective of positively impacting the self-esteem and lives of women over 25 years old through sport, created by Raissa Lima. Link here

DESTEMIDAS PROGRAM, BY THE NGO LUTA PELA PAZ - It is a program that seeks to promote the potential of girls using sport as a tool for the personal development and emancipation of women. Link here

CASULO COLLECTIVE - Project designed only for women, in a space of empowerment and welcoming, where women can feel comfortable, participating in lectures and small courses. Created by Priscila Monteiro. Link here
