The project represents an important and innovative initiative to raise the educational level of Maré residents and reduce educational and social inequalities in the region.
By offering CPV (pre-college course) students the opportunity to delve deeper into Mathematics, the Actuaries of the Future project encourages Maré residents to pursue degrees in Exact Sciences, which have historically been less sought after by students from the area. The focus on math education aims to reduce the historical aversion and learning difficulties in this subject, which has always been a challenge for university candidates in Maré.
The training also fosters critical thinking about society, emphasizing the importance of defending and guaranteeing Human Rights and respecting diversity.
Reinforcement classes in physics, mathematics, chemistry, and essay writing take place Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. The regular classes in 13 subjects required by university entrance exams are held Monday through Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., in Nova Holanda, with a total of 35 weekly study hours.
- Must be in or have completed the 3rd year of high school
- Be between 15 and 29 years old.
- Be a resident of Maré.
Candidates must participate in the annual selection process for the CPV course, which starts in December for the following year's classes. After registration, candidates will be called for an individual interview. The dates and the registration link are announced on Redes da Maré’s social media.
“Participating in the project has been a very interesting experience for me, and I believe the group feels the same way. The focus on math subjects and writing has helped me a lot to deepen my knowledge and better prepare for the entrance exams. The classes are intense but very well directed. Besides the content, the project has also brought me more discipline, motivation, and confidence. I am very grateful to be part of this project and I hope to give back, achieve my dreams, and inspire other students in the future as well.”
Luiz Carlos Soares da Costa.
“Participating in the Actuaries group was an extremely positive experience. Throughout the project, I had the opportunity to learn a lot, exchange knowledge, and develop myself both personally and academically. The group was welcoming and always collaborative, which made the process even more comfortable.”
João Victor Bispo Marques
“Joining Actuaries of the Future was something new for me; I never thought I would be part of a class where the subjects were focused on math, where I could have a chance to enter a public university, and today I see that possibility. Each teacher's class is something new, and each one has a way of approaching the subjects. I thank Redes da Maré for the opportunity to be part of this class and for allowing me to learn and relearn things I didn’t know.”
