CONNECTING PROJECT DURING THE PANDEMIC

In 2020, in the context of the pandemic, Connecting Project continued its activities remotely with students who had been enrolled in the in-person format until that moment.

The project team conducted a survey on connectivity and access with the students and observed that the vast majority only had mobile phones, making it impossible to continue teaching using computers and their tools.

As a way to overcome this obstacle and enable teaching about the use of technology and access to information, the project’s YouTube channel was created — Canal Conectando — to serve students and maintain classes.

The channel served as a platform for sharing educational videos about using mobile phones on the internet, which is the main form of access for residents, addressing topics such as the use of applications, security tips, storage, and learning platforms.

In addition to creating the channel, the project carried out other important actions, such as mentoring sessions, training activities, and the engagement and participation of beneficiaries in challenges on the use of technology to solve problems.

CONNECTING FOR TEACHERS

To overcome the barriers imposed on education by the pandemic, we launched another branch of the course that can be applied by teachers in their school routine. The proposal is to contribute to the continuity of the teaching and learning process in schools. Connecting for Teachers was created in the second semester of 2021 through a partnership between schools in the territory and the Education Axis of Redes da Maré. The course is open to teachers from the 50 public schools in Maré.

CONNECTING FOR WEAVERS

With the growing demand for remote work, the project also sought to support the weavers of Redes da Maré by creating Connecting for Weavers. In December 2020, this group began in order to provide training in resources for better carrying out actions and work through various collaborative tools for teams. Approximately 30 weavers graduated in the first group.

CONNECTING FOR CP6 STUDENTS

The classes take place in partnership with Mathematics and Portuguese teachers. In Mathematics, students develop computational thinking to solve mathematical problems. Online games are also used, promoting typing skills and website reading skills. In Portuguese, students develop Google research skills and learn to interpret and select quality content. As a resource, the classes focus on the use of the Word text editing tool.
